MUN (Model United Nations)

Since 2004, each year Hisar School students attend MUN (Model United Nations) conferences worldwide. MUN is a simulation program organized by high school students, which samples the United Nations General Assembly, Security Council and the International Court of Justice. During MUN conferences students from all around the world come together and discuss current events and global issues.

MUN conferences are organizations managed solely by students for students between the ages of 15-19. During the conferences participants engage in debates and brainstorming sessions while representing a member nation other than their own. Students participate as delegates of their appointed countries in different committees and publish resolutions as a result of their discussion sessions.

Model United Nations conferences have fostered many benefits for both teachers and students for 50 years now. Students have developed many life skills through participating in MUN such as communicating internationally in their second language, debating, negotiating, teamwork and leadership.

Participation in THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) is only by means of invitation and we are happy to say that our high school students are among the invitees entitled to participate in this conference. In addition to THIMUN, our school participates in other prestigious local and international conferences such as DSA-MUN (Deutsche Schule Athen Model United Nations) and ACMUN (Anatolia College Model United Nations).

JMUN (Junior Model United Nations)

With a commitment to public speaking, debating and the free exchange of ideas, Hisar School has been organizing and hosting a first-of-its-kind Junior Model United Nations (JMUN) conference since 2006. Our conference grew from a 200-student conference attended solely by Turkish schools to an international one hosting over 700 students. JMUN is a recommended conference by The Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN).

Hisar JMUN is a three and a half day conference held solely in English and organized by experienced Model United Nations (MUN) students in the 15-19 years age group, who also chair the various sessions and represent the appropriate, supporting Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). For beginners with MUN, the conference offers preliminary training as preparation to simulate the work of the United Nations (UN) in a range of workshops, and in similar fashion to THIMUN style senior MUN events around the world. Its target participants are middle school students. The conference intends to provide an occasion for learning how the UN works, through researching, discussing and debating important world issues concerning member nations. It is an intense activity requiring high motivation that gives participants the opportunity to advance a wide range of English language skills, sharpen their intellect, to familiarize themselves thoroughly with global issues as well as learn about the world of international diplomacy.

JMUN also offers a well-structures support in developing and participating key skills for students whom speak English as their second language. In these training workshops students practice public speaking, debating, preparing and drafting policy statements and resolutions as well as lobbying exclusively in English.
