Grade 9

Grade 9 Turkish language and literature course covers 5 hours a week. The course provides introduction to basic literature knowledge and concepts. Success of the students in future studies is related to knowing the units well in grade 9. In addition to genres and text information, the course comprises of comparison techniques such as comprehension and interpretation, literary work-film analysis. Students learn about the plays, poems, stories and genres of novel from the world’s and Turkish literature. Evaluation methods are review essays, projects and group works. Each student is able to study according to personal interests and skills. The work put forward by the students is the outcome of learning.

Grade 10

Grade 10 Turkish language and literature course covers 5 hours a week. It covers the period from History of Turkish Literature before Islam (verbal and written works) to folk and divan literature under the influence of Islam. Text and paragraph analysis are done with the help of theme, topic, main idea, limitation of the topic, expression methods and techniques and ways of idea development. Therefore, students meet distinguished literary works from the world and Turkey. Evaluation methods are review essays, projects and group works. Each student is able to study according to personal interests and skills. The work put forward by the students is the outcome of learning.

Grade 11

Grade 11 Turkish language and literature course covers 5 hours a week. The course covers Turkish literary period between Tanzimat Era and War of Independence by taking “West-East” concepts into consideration. In addition, Western literary trends are analyzed in parallel to literary periods and movements with the help of literary work/film analysis. Text and paragraph analysis are done with the help of theme, topic, main idea, limitation of the topic, expression methods and techniques and ways of idea development. So, students meet distinguished literary works from the world and Turkey. Evaluation methods are review essays, projects and group works. Each student is able to study according to personal interests and skills. The work put forward by the students is the outcome of learning.

12. Sınıf

Grade 11 Turkish language and literature course covers 5 hours a week. The course starts from Turkish literary period National Literature and continues with Republic Literature and contemporary Turkish literature. Text and paragraph analysis are done with the help of theme, topic, main idea, limitation of the topic, expression methods and techniques and ways of idea development. So, students meet distinguished literary works from the world and Turkey. Evaluation methods are review essays, projects and group works. Each student is able to study according to personal interests and skills. The work put forward by the students is the outcome of learning.

ELECTIVE COURSES

Film and Literature – Grade 11

The power of film is within access to unattainable lives after eliminating bias. Different people, worlds and experinces can be discovered. After seeing that film is also a way of self-expression, it took a step forward as “the seventh art”. The film is in touch with any field of art. However, the strongest bond is with literature. Wide freedom of both disciplines give them uniqueness and independence. One of them express itself in words and the other grasps the reality with pictures. These two fields of art not only develop perception but also teach how to see from different perspectives.

Film and Literature course aims to

Ottoman Turkish Language – Grade 11

Ottoman Turkis course is appropriate for grade 10, 11, 12 students who are interested in language, history, culture and literature. First of all, historical development of Turkish language from Turkey and Ottoman Turkish are focused. Later, analysis are made on “alphabet” and its features; different shapes and symbols that stands “at the beginning, middle and end”; “features of vowels, consonants, affixes”, “numbers and exclamation marks”. Introductory course takes 2 months. In the first term students read from magazine-news samples and simple texts of authors/poets from first quaster of 20th century. These texts are comprised of newspapers, comics, stories, novels and poems from the authors and poets of the period.

Some grammar topics are introduced in the second term. The texts are chosen from more complex works written in target languge. Hand-written texts from Sait Faik, Orhan Veli, Sabahattin Ali, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, Aziz Nesin are read towards the end of academic year.

Considering cultural carrier role of the language, students should make a bond with the culture and be aware of historical and cultural texture of the city they live in. In this regard, we aim to organize field trips to the sahafs and book fairs to introduce the sahafs in Istanbul. In addition, the course provides great deal to vocabulary development of the students as they use dictionaries intensely in the course.

YKS National University Entrance Exam Preparation – Grade 12

Topics of national university entrance exam are revised and solutions of multiple choice questions and practice tests are provided.
