Spanish department goal is to guide our students to rise in proficiency confidence and communicative skills in the foreign language, applying Bloom’s taxonomy which is based on creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying real life examples, understanding and remembering instructional methods.

Hisar students are taught Spanish from a beginners' level in grade 5 of middle school or 9 of high school until grade 12. We follow the European Framework for our curriculum. Our aim is to teach students the necessary grammar and vocabulary of their second foreign language after English, to enable them to understand and use simple sentences and to develop their speaking and writing skills in a real life situations.

By the end of the year, students from grade 9 will have covered the present, past and future tenses, they will be able to express themselves and will be ready to sit the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language Exam (DELE) at level A1 which is an internationally recognized certificate administered by the Cervantes Institute that enables students to access the Spanish-speaking world, improves their academic education and provides them the confidence to continue advancing towards more advanced levels and AP Spanish Culture and Language in High School offered by College board in United States.

Spanish teachers also put an emphasis on helping students to look at the culture of the countries where the language is spoken and encourage them to take a more profound look at their own culture. For example, students participate in Spanish JMUN, European Film Festival, the Gastronomy Club, the spelling competition, Spanish Week, exhibitions and a cultural approach with Cervantes Institute for art, music and cultural activities.

In High School, we teach 3 hours per week to grades Prep,9,10,11 and grade 12/ 2 hours per week. We have 5 teachers in the Spanish department from Venezuela, Spain and Turkey. Our teaching materials are always selected with a focus on our curriculum. Also we combine technology in classes using different platforms as a tool to keep the interaction of the students. We emphasize 21st Century learning skills; Collaboration and teamwork, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.


In this level students are are having and introduction of the language as alphabet, greetings, essential verbs, nationalities, professions, numbers, adjectives, physical descriptions and basic vocabulary, for them to give the opportunity to choose in the end of their year to be acuare about which foreign language and find their own path to success continuing through high school with Spanish, German or French.

Grade 9

The curriculum is designed to enhance the essential skills in core subjects introducing new topics along with real life examples activating the knowledge gained in Middle school courses.In this grade is mandatory to take DELE Spanish level exam A1- ESCOLAR in the end of the year. Some of are curriculum units are Family members , daily routine, my neighborhood, Hobbies, the time, season of the year, present tense, future, progressive and past tense.

Grade 10

The High School Grade 10 Spanish course curriculum designed to engage learning process to meet their academic goals. Students enrolled in 10th-grade course curriculum with are all the past tenses and future exposed to lessons, homework, discussions, tests, and oral presentations. Also students have the opportunity to enroll in Pre AP Spanish class to continue in grade 11.

Grade 11

The high school Grade 11-course curriculum is designed for high school juniors to take interactive classes where students are exposed to have advanced grammar in Spanish language. In the 11th grade program, students will find opportunities to enhance their learning abilities and discover options towards their interests. Grade 11 students also have an opportunity to earn the college credits by enrolling in Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement Courses AP Spanish cultural language.

Grade 12

The High school Grade 12 course curriculum is designed for high school seniors to complete final high school course requirements. In 12th grade course curriculum students are introduced to the advanced topics of the core subjects, such that this lays a strong foundation for college education. Some of the topics are Biographies of important Spanish authors, Cultural and traditional events, European film and Gastronomy.


Spanish students participate during the academic year in differents types of activities organized by Hisar School and another schools in İstanbul also Cervantes Institute.
