The training provided by Columbia University about assessing student learning was a great experience for all the English teachers in Pre-school and primary. Teachers felt encouraged about the way they had already developed and used their own assessment tools to inform their practice, but were also able to reflectively step back and look into the effective use of language as they devised tools for the future assessments.

We can say that we understand the two basic concepts we know better: "Formative Assessment" and "Rubric preparation". Course visits on Thursday and Friday were positive. During the training session, we had the opportunity to revise what we are already implementing in the classrooms by means of formative assessment. We found it useful to talk about the nature and purpose of formative assessment and what considerations we should have when designing assessment tasks.

February 1st Module

During the February visit of Columbia CPET Teachers’ Academy to Hisar, Lead Professional Development Advisors Brian Veprek and Sherish Holloman held training sessions for our Math, English and Science teachers during 3 full days. 

The following two days were dedicated to learning walks where teachers of different disciplines and levels had the chance to observe students' learning journeys during class visits and make evaluations afterwards. The final training session was held with the Leadership Team of Hisar..
